5 things I’ve learned from Professional Action Sports

Hello! If you’re here, you or someone in your life probably wants to pursue action sports so here are 5 things I’ve learned to help your journey

Be Yourself- Don’t worry about a person doing things you can’t even imagine doing. That is there stitch in the game, and honestly, since it’s already been done don’t worry about it. If you like to push speed, push tricks, or want to make it social media, your value comes from your core and what makes you you will be what sponsors and fans will look for.

Don’t burn bridges- every one has bad days. If being relevant in the action sports world. Try and not be anything but a stand up person. The best person will end up going onto the next thing instead of fuming a comment or something during a session. If a company turns you down. It probably is because they can’t do it. Not because of you. So being patient is necessary. Don’t burn any bridges.

It’s not how good you are, but how long your good for- Some people just learn at different speeds. Also some people are talented in different places. In my opinion what creates a career in sports is a great work ethic. You don’t have to go out and go insane. But if you go out every day and slowly work up to goals or ideas of where your riding can go, you will find a career if dedicated enough.

Find niche professions inside your passion- Every action sport athlete will tell you money can get short for no reason. No matter your effort sometimes it just doesn’t work out. Find a job inside your industry, bike shop, mechanic, etc. With this you will learn a bunch and be able to have a skill to fall back on when needed. Remember every one in a bike shop is there because they love bikes so yes this profession they will understand pursuing your dream.

Work on relationships- Sponsorship is not always about being the most talented. I’ve seen a ton of just hard workers absolutely crush it in sports. What creates a passion into a profession is sponsors. People who pay you for your work. So you can easily understand why these people are going to be close friends. Down the road you will be able to share your dreams and they will be open.

Making action sports a profession takes a lot of patience, knowing it’s a job and it’s not going to be fun all the time. Life can not be fair but if you can be ok with that and rise above the pack someone will support your cause just don’t rush it because it will destroy your dreams of being a professional.
